Designing Tight Spaces to Work for You

Do you have a unique space and need to maximize it’s potential? There are a number of ways to make your space work for you. When Redfin asked us for a quote on how to to design an odd-shaped space, we immediately thought of our recent 900 square foot project! We put together a short list of tips and tricks we used to navigate this tiny space in hopes if will help you with your own. At Brit Interior Design Co, we are no strangers to a design challenge, and we’d love to help you overcome yours!

HOW TO MAXIMIZE YOUR SPACE’S POTENTIAL

There are numerous great ways to maximize your space. Here are a few of our go to tips:

1. First, brighten everything up! In this space, we chose to continue Sherwin Williams Pure White paint throughout the space. That doesn’t mean you always have to shy away from color! But this allowed us to really let the rest of the finishes and furnishings shine.

2. Use every inch! The tip we shared with Redfin is to “Maximize the function of every square inch of your space by creating intentional zones conducive to supporting your everyday life. If you walk in and drop your things on the counter every day, maybe borrowing a bit of your entry for a custom drop zone is perfect for you. Frame out those zones by using rugs to define your spaces and incorporating as many multipurpose items and hidden storage as possible.”

3. Open up your space however you can! In our project, we took down walls, opened up the kitchen, and repurposed existing storage into an open + hidden storage combo. This doesn’t mean you eliminate purposeful zones, only that you get that open-concept feeling as well! Here, we relocated appliances and opened kitchen walls just enough to extend the cabinets from the previously tiny kitchen into a peninsula, perfect for enjoying breakfast or a creating a designated homework zone for kiddos. This also allowed additional lower cabinet and pantry storage, as well as a view from the kitchen/dining space into the main living area!

Every space has potential, and we hope this helps you see the potential in yours. Still can’t see it? We’d love to chat with you. Schedule your vision session today! And for more valuable tips, make sure to check out the full Redin article here.

Cheers,
Brit
